Ira's comments are spot on.

The thing of it is, beginners do not *want* to hear this. Whether it's impatience or arrogance or whatever, they want it NOW.

I know I did all those years ago. And after getting negative feedback, I would stop for a while. Then for some internal reason, I would try again. And again.

After decades of this start-and-stop process, I finally feel that I *might* be hitting my stride. Maybe that's a big hurdle...that I can say "might" instead of something more definite. And I may stop yet again. But I do know now that I will never stop completely. And maybe that's what is at the bottom of the creative process.
