like an outfielder to whom the ball has finally come

Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness.
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He also loves the bow that is stable.
~Kahlil Gibran

For Poetry Friday, poems about love, parenting, and books that are really tacos stuffed with daisies.

Alice Walker (shared by Maya C. Popa):

Caroline Bird's Rookie, which she says is "My poem about having absolutely no idea what is going on or what to do or how to behave in the world or what anything means":

Lastly, the very sweet "Fund Drive" by Terri Kirby Erickson:

Fund Drive
By Terri Kirby Erickson

She could be a Norman Rockwell painting,
the small girl on my front porch with her eager
face, her wind-burned cheeks red as cherries.
Her father waits by the curb, ready to rescue
his child should danger threaten, his shadow
reaching halfway across the yard.

Your three poem-choices make a fabulous sandwich of reality, with the bread of love holding together all of our fumbling insecurities. Thank you for all three (plus the bonus Gibran quote).

And that's how it's done when a Rockwell-painted young one comes to the door. If reading my shared poem today, you may think of that Rookie! We are all in this together, whether we believe it or not. Thanks, Tabatha, I always love what you find for us!

*swoon* Most especially the "Fund Drive" poem...I'm not crying, you're crying. Happy Mother's Day, T! :)

Like Bridget, sobbing over that heart in the outfield, opening like a glove. Every one an arrow hitting the mark. Thank you for embiggening my Saturday morning, Tabatha.

Thank you for sharing these. I love all of them. My favorite is "Fund Drive."

Thank you for all of these lovely poems, Linda. "Fund Drive" brought back memories of myself as a young girl walking our uptown neighborhood (alone!) selling turkey raffle tickets in the chill of an early autumn. And then again as a parent, waiting for my young girl scout, much like the father in the poem. Thanks also for channeling The Simpsons with "embiggen." What a great word I need to use more!

"planting daffodils in a bucket of milk," and tacos stuffed with daisies… love the imagery. "Fund Drive" really captured my attention and kept me there, thanks Tabatha!
