A Quiet Walk

The quieter you become, the more you can hear.
~Baba Ram Das

This poem could almost go in the Directory of Imaginary Poems, as it is about a place that doesn't really exist. It's a place that you can go when you are meditating, or a place that you can dream when you are stuck somewhere, waiting.

A Quiet Walk
by Tabatha Yeatts

The blades of grass lean upon each other
The blossoms breathe their own scent
The gravel holds no trace of footprints
The lake water lolls across its bed
The bird thinks about preening
The leaf sleeps on its branch
The sun's rays float in the air
The bell has grown still

So lovely, Tabatha. I crave such a space-time continuum. Especially loved the blades of grass leaning on one another and the sun's rays floating.

You're right about the imaginary places. I can travel anywhere in this quiet place. I also love those blades of grass leaning, Tabatha. Thank you!

Your poem is a lovely, peaceful place to be. I love the shape of it--the way it gets smaller is like going inward.

I want to memorize your poem as a way to relax before sleep or countdown in meditation. (I say that like I actually sit and meditate . . . I will . . . someday.) Love it!

The bird thinks about preening...I can see this bird, head tilting like they do, looking curious, and yet confident in his plumage. He quickly lifts his wing and takes a quick peck under, head bobs back up before you could blink. He's back to looking and holding his beak high.

What a perfect whisper of sound in this serene scene. Beautiful!

Your poem is a series of controlled breaths. Calming.
