Malala

What happened to Malala Yousufzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani who was shot by Taliban soldiers, has been preying on my mind. In case you are also wondering what can be done to help Malala, her two wounded friends, and girls like her, here are some links I found:

* Amnesty International, where you can send your support to Malala Yousufzai and friends
* A Slideshow about Global Girls' Education
* The Girl Who Wanted To Go To School, an article from The New Yorker about Malala
* Girls' Education, info by country
* An old post about International Women's Day
* Defend the Rights of Women and Girls poster by Shepard Fairey

Thank you for these links, Tabatha. It is a tragedy, isn't it? We have a former student who has worked in Africa as a student, and now makes her home in Kibera, Kenya, has begun a school for girls in need there, in Kibera, Africa's largest slum. We are so proud of her, that she is doing things for girls, to help them make a difference in their communities too. Young women like Malala shouldn't have to suffer because they are doing right.
