Seeds and stars

I continue to do what I did as a child; dream of books, make books and collect books.
~Maurice Sendak

Happy Poetry Friday! Short poems today, plus a cool thing I saw. (Also, if you are stressed and want to watch a relaxing video, check out the one I posted last Monday. It makes me want to go to Azerbaijan.)

Summer Stars
by Carl Sandburg

Bend low again, night of summer stars.
So near you are, sky of summer stars,
So near, a long-arm man can pick off stars,
Pick off what he wants in the sky bowl,
So near you are, summer stars,
So near, strumming, strumming,
So lazy and hum-strumming.

Summer Stars! And, this is one I hadn't yet seen. What a gift. Thank you. I know the poem wasn't FOR me...and yet, it is for me. At least it feels like that. I also might have to steal that map idea for my middle school library. I LOVE it! Great post...a keeper!

That's my kind of agriculture. The star poem makes me long for a cloudless, city-less, humidity-less summer night sky so that I can actually see the stars. I'll have to make do with the purple flower stars in your post!

Tabatha, what a sweet pair of poems you shared today. I love the idea of sowing word seeds. And I get to enjoy that summer bowl of stars where I live, and Sandburg's poem makes me remember I need to get out more often and enjoy! Lovely post. The author map is cool too. Thanks again for swapping poems with me. It was very fun!

Oh those elusive "black seeds"...
Love this post, Tabatha, especially the author map. Am going to share with my daughters. Thanks!

The "Agriculture" poem is beautiful–I like all the space between the lines and closing action. And I love Sandburg's "sky bowl" and "lazy and hum-strumming" summer stars——would love to jump in, thanks Tabatha! ;)

ahh...Carl Sandburg's Summer Stars! "So near you are..." It's a favorite poetic image. Thank you! And thank you for the library map. I love that it looks like the London Underground!
