So I'll fight the dragons 'til you can

He wanted the songs, the stories, to save everybody.
~Sherman Alexie

Three songs today...the first one is from a poem by Dana Gioia (I shared it a while back).

The second song is from a musical based on a novel. I haven't seen Big Fish, but I heard Aaron Tveit sing this song (brought a tear to my eye!). I think Poetry Fridayers will appreciate the desire to bring your stories to someone else.

Lastly, we have the Eric Whitacre Singers performing an ee cummings poem. (Yes, I'm fangirling Eric Whitacre again!)

I Will Wade Out
by ee cummings

i will wade out
till my thighs are steeped in burning flowers
I will take the sun in my mouth
and leap into the ripe air
            Alive
                with closed eyes
to dash against darkness...

...read the rest here

Some of y'all will be into the song about homemade canned food I shared for Music Monday.

You can find the Poetry Friday round-up at The Logonauts. Thanks, Katie!

I haven't seen BIG FISH either, but I am loving this fighting dragons and those 50,000 drums. :) We have loved watching Aaron on BLOODLINE (which is a much darker part for him!).

It's great to see these different musical adaptations. Poetry is a beautiful thing.

Wow, that cummings poem is a masterwork. I like to hear poetry set to music. Fighting dragons isn't just for men anymore.

So enjoyed the first two videos (the third was "unavailable" to me, maybe because I'm not within the US?). Anyway, so impressed by how "in the poem" all those musicians were in the first one... and what a lovely female singer to be singing it. The second is fabulous, especially the last line. Thanks for sharing this poetry-cum-music!

I always save your posts for when I have time to read, watch, and listen several times. Thank you for your creativity, Tabatha!

It's a wonderfully sensuous poem, Tabatha, and to set it to song is awesom. You find the music I don't think I'd ever discover. Thank you!

I keep thinking I'll get to a place where I can listen on the computer today, but hasn't happened yet. But I'll circle back! These sound great; thanks for sharing.

Something to love in all of these. I do love a poem set to music--for my 4's long ago I made a simple, spooky guitar version of Hist Whist--never written down, lost to the ages.
I often wonder, as much as I love music, why I don't write some.
Thanks for these!
