In Which I Begin Art Thursday

Poetry Friday has been such a terrific experience that I decided to start Art Thursday as a kind of journal where I keep track of works that catch my eye.

I thought about beginning Art Thursday with something lovely, but this is the piece that got my attention yesterday.

Self-Portrait, Yawning
Joseph Ducreux, 1735-1802

Not lovely, but arresting all the same.

This is an interesting painting....I've never seen a portrait like this from someone who was alive in the 1700-1800s ; it looks more like candid photography than a painting of that era!
