I get all my ideas in Switzerland near the Forka Pass. There is a little town called Gletch, and two thousand feet up above Gletch there is a smaller hamlet called Über Gletch. I go there on the fourth of August every summer to get my cuckoo clock fixed. While the cuckoo is in the hospital, I wander around and talk to the people in the streets. They are very strange people, and I get my ideas from them.
~Dr. Seuss
Two themes for the end of the lyrics month! First, a children's theme, which I'm kicking off with what I think of as a poem for two voices from Seussical:
Steve Songs. He has a lot of inventive, interesting lyrics.
They Might Be Giants cover many science topics in a fun way.
Bonus lyrics that made me laugh:
********
My second theme is "I can't keep quiet." I already featured this first song, but it's back with a choir of 1,300:
Cold War Kids: Locker Room Talk
Bonus for people who like political parodies: The Russian Connection (to the tune of "The Rainbow Connection," song starts 2 minutes in)
********
Reflections on the Teche has the Poetry Friday round-up. Thanks, Margaret!

That milck video is wonderful. And of course, Billy Joel. Sesame Street had a genius moment when they brought us Oscar the Grouch. Like Eeyore, he's become an icon. A respite from the unrelenting messages that we must be perfect and we must be positive. All day long.
Oh my, these are fun. I wonder if med students would be helped by that "bloodmobile", Tabatha? And more politics in music! Everyone's getting in on this continuing crazy act. Thanks for these. You know so much music!
I am loving these collections of poems as songs! Thank you for collecting and sharing these!
Thank you for adding music to my morning, Tabatha! Sesame Street songs will always have a special place in my heart. Oh, and The Russian Connection...enough said. =)
That's the first time I've seen the Billy Joel/Sesame Street clip— how great is that? Also loved "I can't keep quiet." There's something about a choir of 1300 that'll getcha every time.
"I go there on the fourth of August every summer to get my cuckoo clock fixed." This made my day!
Fun songs, Tabatha. It had been awhile since I'd heard Billy Joel so that was a special treat (he's someone I've always wanted to see in concert). And once again you've introduced me to new people -- Steve Songs is great! The only artists I knew from before are Raffi and Barry Louis Polisar (whom I've seen in person) -- children's music has come a long way.
Tabatha, the bloodmobile video is adorable. I wonder if elementary teachers would use it when teaching about the heart. Oscar the Grouch is a great character and how splendid to hear Billy Joel singing his famous song on Sesame Street. Russian Connection is obviously there as the hot political topic. Do you by any chance have some spring tunes for me to place in my gallery (compliments of you)?
I love what you bring to Poetry Friday! I'm catching up after being away for the long weekend. Oh, boy....those words in Seussical, "I'm sure every great thinker feels this way".
I would love to snag some of these lyrics for golden shovel poetry. Lyrics are perfect for that!
Thanks, Tabatha!
#Ican'tkeepquiet, excellent, beautiful, moving, and I can't keep quiet either, thanks for sharing–I'm marching this Saturday in the Chicago Truth March! And Oscar and gang, what a treat, thanks for all!
