Artist Giovanni Boldini was born in 1842, the eighth of his parents' thirteen children. Boldini was born in Italy, but he lived in Paris for nearly sixty years. I can see why he was a sought-after portrait painter:

Wow, Boldini did fantastic work. Each one is a beautiful reflection of the subject (including The Dispatch-Bearer).
It would be really difficult to pick a favorite within this group...they all have their own *wow* factor.
Did wonder, though, if John Singer Sargent always carried a riding crop with him or if he just wanted it in his portrait. :-)
I did enjoy the epitaphs, but these portraits (also, I think, a kind of epitaph of the long-gone subjects) are really arresting and wonderful. I especially like Verdi's--curious, sorrowful, listening.
Please forgive me that I don't stop by more often...when I do I get sucked in by all the varied wonderfulness and then I find I've spent all my allotted blogtime at yours without visiting anywhere else! :)
