The sounds of the tea being made invite the peach blossoms to peep in through the window.

Perhaps now would be a good time for a cuppa?

One more quote:
If afternoon teas had started in the Oligocene Epoch, instead of the seventeenth century, we are convinced that evolution, far from discarding that useful appendage, the tail, would have perfected it. A little hand would have evolved at the end of it — such a one as might hold his saucer, while a gentleman sips from his teacup.
~Contributors' Club, The Atlantic Monthly, October 1917
These tea houses (and rooms and sets) are all kind of peaceful and ceremonial...and some are even beautiful. They all show a need for human relaxation and quiet conversation. Interesting that we have built satisfying that need around a beverage.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, though, that the last quote will stick with me for a while (for good or bad :-).
Oh, let's do have tea, Tabatha! I'll meet you at ANY of those magical spots....
ReplyDeleteI was quite tickled by the quote at the end. I could envision the gentleman having tea, and his tail properly holding the little saucer for the teacup. :-D
