~Sharon Olds
Welcome!
I planned to write form poems this week, and in fact I did write two, but I am not content with either. Our kitty Pearl died suddenly last Friday. She was a young cat, with no signs of illness, and she started throwing up blood-tinged bubbles while I was in the shower Friday morning. She had an undiagnosed heart condition which the vet said only shows itself when cats go into heart failure. The poems that I wrote were about pets, but they need work. My concentration is not what it could be this week...
So I'll share a video with you instead. It was read by my younger daughter's friend, and my son added the images:
The visible and the in-Want to join the Summer Poetry Swap? If you take part in the swap, you will send 1-5 poems to your fellow swappers (and receive an equal number). If you sign up for five, you will be sending a poem to a person every two weeks over ten weeks (June-August). Poems can be sent in envelopes or on postcards. Email me at tabatha(at)tabathayeatts(dot)com to join or for more information.
Here's Mister Linky!
Tabatha, I'm so sorry about your kitty. Those furbabies are so precious to us. I will think about the poetry swap. I've had a streak of doing too much lately! Maybe after NPM and my commitment to writing a new poem every day is over. What was I thinking?! There's dishes and kids to pick-up, drop-off, meetings and papers and dog to walk.
ReplyDeleteOverall, even though it's sometimes tough to fit a new poem in each day, I'm really happy with how I feel by writing each day with a purpose. I hope all those who visit Poetry Friday are feeling that too.
Happy Poetry Friday and have a better week!
Tabatha, I'm sorry to hear about Pearl. I am a cat lover too, and I know how much they become part of the family. Sending hugs your way.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the Marge Piercy poem. Your daughter read it beautifully. Have a good weekend.
So sorry to hear about Pearl! My wife had a kitty named Pearl, too, who passed away a number of years ago...it's always tough saying goodbye to a feline family member. Thank you for hosting, though, and I hope you have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteTabatha, I am so sorry. Your family must be heartbroken. Sending hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you didn't push yourself unnecessarily with the form poems or beat yourself up over it, Tabatha. Best to take your time when life knocks you off balance. (((hugs))) Besides, how fortunate for us to be able view that lovely poetry collaboration! (Such a thought-provoking poem, too.) No swapping for me this summer. I'm already stressing about everything that's being squeezed into this summer like sardines.
ReplyDeleteOh, Tabatha, I am so sorry to hear about your Pearl. You needn't worry about any ot this, the poem you shared is wonderful. Although it speaks of "people" surely that means pets, too. Thank you for hosting!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you that I love the summer swap logo, gorgeous & summery!
ReplyDeleteOh, Tabatha, sorry about your kitty.
ReplyDeleteWow, I love the video! Great poem, great reading, great message. Thank you. So so sorry about Pearl. That's tough. Thinking of you. And I love the Summer Poem Swap graphic! So.... summery! Who wouldn't want to write a poem?? xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific reading - tell your daughter's friend she did a really fine job, and I like the way she spells her name. ;0) Your son did a great job with the images as well.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your heartache this week - I just took our very old kitty to the vet yesterday to say goodbye, and it was a kick in the gut. No matter how many times you go through it, it doesn't get easier. --With you across the miles in this. XO
Many thanks for hosting.
Sorry to hear about Pearl. Even more devastating because she was young and died suddenly.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Marge Piercy poem. Great reading and visuals!
Appreciate your hosting this week. Thinking of you and your family and sending hugs.
Tabatha, I am sorry for your loss. Although I do not have any pets, my friends who do have felt the sting of illness and loss. I was intrigued by the oral reading of the poem with the great visuals. Many thanks for that. Thank you for hosting PF this week and organizing the Summer Poetry Swap.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your Pearl. And thanks so much for hosting and putting together another poem swap!
ReplyDeleteTabatha, What a sore ache a lost pet leaves behind. My thoughts are with you and Robyn.
ReplyDeleteThat poem is a wonderful consolation, and I'm imagining your kitty as a warbler, not a moving man. Poetry is a joyous consolation that brings the best memories back to us.
I love the summer poetry swap badge. I would be happy to participate in the summer swap, if you will let me know how to do that.
XOXO,
Brenda
My thoughts are with you and your family. I'm so sorry for your loss. Pets are precious, and cats are the best.
ReplyDeleteYou had me with "poets are like steam valves! I'm sorry for your loss. It's so hard to let the little ones go.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so sorry about your kitty, Tabatha. Sending you and your family virtual purrs and comfort. Thanks for hosting today and for hosting the summer poetry swap (I love the logo!). I wish I could participate, but we'll be moving this summer. =)
ReplyDeleteOh Tabatha - I'm so sorry to read about your cat. I lost a young calico named Boots to a heart attack about 10 years ago, and it was so startling to discover that (of course) they can have those sorts of ailments. It is so very hard to lose a pet, but to lose one young and in such a traumatic manner . . . there are no words. Hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteMy love to you and yours over the loss of sweet Pearl. Kitties have a way of becoming family. I am so sorry.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved everything about the Marge Piercy video. Thank you all for this gift and for hosting and for all you do for our community. xo
Tabatha,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your cat. Over the years, I have had to put three cats to sleep. It's like losing a member of the family when we say goodbye to a pet.
My love to all who loved your sweet cat, Pearl. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything about the rendition of Marge Piercy's wonderful poem. I replayed it several times... and will be sharing it. Thanks so much for making this space for all of us to link up. Hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your sweet kitty. I will be wishing you well, and I'm so grateful you were able to share with us today.
ReplyDeleteTabatha, I am so very sorry about your kitty! Poor little Pearl. Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteOh, Tabbath! So sorry...

So sad to hear of the loss of your sweet Pearl. Pets are members of the family and to lose your kitten at a young age and so suddenly makes it even harder. I loved the reading and video of the poem. Thanks for hosting!

Thank you for the Sharon Olds quote.
Thank you for the Marge Piercy poem/video.
I even thank you for wringing the bottled up tears out of my heart with the story of your kitty's death (condolences). I cried for my mom, for the land lab, for my car totaled in the wreck 4 weeks ago. I've been holding it all in, carrying on with The Things That Need To Get Done. I needed to let myself cry.
I completely forgot to post my link yesterday! So sorry about the kitty. Thanks for the reading and for hosting.
ReplyDeleteSo very sorry about Pearl. Tears for her. Thank you for the beautiful video poem and the joyful invitation for a summer poetry swap.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear, the loss of a loved pet is terrible.
ReplyDeleteAs a cat person, I especially feel your sorry for the absence of young Pearl.
Hugs.
