The moon is a friend for the lonesome to talk to.
~Carl Sandburg
Leonid Tishkov's Private Moon today. Tishkov says, “Private Moon is a visual poem telling the story of a man
who met the Moon and stayed with her for the rest of his life."

Oh, I like this. This visual is stunning.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever read a poem and wonder, "Hm. Do I like that?" This is one of those for me. It is a poem that I will read more than once, so it must be good or I wouldn't want to read it again. But I don't like it. Or do I? For some reason I find the images disturbing. Definitely, so far with one reading, my fav part is the part you quoted. That is a beauty! Thanks for sharing! I like all poetry regardless of whether I "like" it or not!
ReplyDeleteOh, that is a lovely fairy tale and homage. The photos are whacky and wonderful. I'm also fond of "Like a lunar unicorn/ Under the covers she/ shines even brighter." Such layers of meaning and a tongue in cheek frolic, too.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is so imaginative... love the leaps its takes! Also, I like this stanza in particular, in part because it sounds like the moon is a "he" ? (That all by itself is surprising!)
ReplyDeleteA bundle of light is the moon
on a sleigh. The sky
worries, when will he return?
Where have they taken him?
Thank you, Tabatha, as ever. xo
Oh Tabatha, I've written and collected so many poems about the moon, journaled with my students as we "moon-watched". This is stunning, a new twist to ponder. Each one takes a new journey. I love how he manipulated the picture and wrote, love that "lunar unicorn". Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe moon is always turning up in my notebooks! I love the poetic descriptions. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is wonderful! You find the best stuff!
ReplyDeleteThe picture poetry combines mystery, magic, and whimsy. A fun and thoughtful all at once.
ReplyDeleteThis was magical, Tabatha - you do find the best things!
ReplyDeleteI'm as fascinated by the process behind this as I am by the writing and images themselves! Magical!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Mary - the process of getting the photos intrigues me, and I wonder which came first, the image or the idea. I love the one of the moon with a cold. Altogether clever, imaginative and a bit wistful.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, something new and delicious to discover! I think 2nd graders will like this, don't you?
ReplyDeleteSo much here to like, Tabatha, from the Sandburg quote to the fantasy art/poetry experience. Moon poems are almost always magical.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite books is Frank Asch's Happy Birthday, Moon, which goes really well with the Sandburg quote.
What a fascinating fantastical piece! The images are stunning in an creative out-of-whack kind of way. I love the Sandburg quote and also the section of the poem you quoted. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSo much goodness in this post, Tabatha! I'm going to search the sky tonight for moon-filled inspiration thanks to you! (the only time I don't mind being outside in the Tucson summer) =)
