As I mentioned before, I've had my heart set on trying to
make presents this year. A while back, I wrote
a poem for my mom. I took that poem and printed it on "vintage style" paper with Jane Austen font, sliced it into strips, and slid it inside an ornament I'd found at Michael's arts and crafts store. VoilĂ -- a poem ornament for my mother! Poets.org also has
holiday poetry gift/decoration ideas. Anybody else got any poetry present ideas?
Read, Write, Howl has the Poetry Friday round-up today.
What a great idea, Tabatha.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find the Jane Austen fond?
Maria, you can find Jane Austen font here: http://www.dafont.com/jane-austen.font
ReplyDeleteIt's on dafont, which I talked about before: http://tabathayeatts.blogspot.com/2011/09/free-fonts.html
It's fun to explore all the choices!
What a great idea! Love your ornament :).
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteWe always have a make-it night for Hanukkah, but don't usually get very literary, save book marks (the kids either paint a page that I cut into strips and then laminate, or else they draw on each one before we laminate. You can laminate a bunch at a time at Kinkos and they make great little extras for teachers, grandparents, etc.)
For other gifts this year, I am going to be relying heavily on the Star Wars craft book.
I love your idea for gifts, and your poem for your mother. I didn't know the word 'fay' so learned a new word from you today! I wonder if we could put poem lines in the bulbs for remembrance too? Along with the other ornaments that take us to other Christmases, it would be like adding people to the tree.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jama. Madelyn, I'm trying to imagine what is in your Star Wars craft book...I should probably just buy one!
ReplyDeleteLinda, your idea is great. We lost a beloved pet this week and an ornament for her would be just the thing.
This is awesome - what a marvelous way to give a gift that connects the giver to the receiver...inspired!
ReplyDeleteTOO COOL!!! I am writing words on rocks and giving a collection of them to my six year old for a present. I posted about it today. Thanks for sharing ideas!
ReplyDeletesuch a great idea. reminds me of the time when i found a dead dragonfly on the ground, in tact, and carefully brought it home and put in a shadow box with an original haiku about the passing of summer. 8 years later my yeen daughter still thinks it was an awesome gift.
ReplyDeleteSo clever and charming! Thanks for sharing, Tabatha. What good be a better gift than poetry?
ReplyDeleteTabatha, thanks for this great poem ornament idea! It's perfect.
