Hidden Poems

Books are mirrors: you only see in them what you already have inside you.
~Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Could we say the same about poems? In this case, books are mirrors for poems you have inside you:

Poetry for Children is the Poetry Friday host today.

Oh my, this is marvelous, Tabatha. I will try it! I did something similar with my students last year. They chose a page from an old book at random, then read the page and illustrated it right on the page. It was wonderful to see how they interpreted the words. Now I wish I'd done it with poetry, too. Thank you!

Wonderful! While I'm familiar with this kind of found poem, I LOVE the artistic interaction. I'll be sharing this on Pinterest and with my daughter's art teacher too. (She's always coming up with fresh ideas and projects for her portfolio class to sink their teeth into.)

Oh, I love it. I saved the video to my YouTube channel. I did this activity with a book I was reading by copying the page and drawing on it. That way I didn't mess up the actual book. My students are going to love this!

OMG! She worked with a pen! I'd need a pencil and a large eraser to make it through even one poem.

I have done this with a class - and they absolutely loved it. Went home and produced more overnight, which is a sure sign of success. I love the way it taps into so many levels of creativity. Miriam Paternoster is super-talented and well beyond anything I could ever dream with a pen.

Oh my! Quite marvelous. And oh for such a steady and know-where-to-put-the-next-line hand.

This is beyond wonderful, Tabatha! I never would have imagined it! Here, I thought you could buy a stencil that does that! Haha! Pairing art and poetry together is brilliant - because why not, right? It was nice waking up to this. Thanks for sharing, Tabatha! =)

Have you seen what Austin Kleon (inventor, I think, of newspaper blackout poetry) is doing now? He uses an exacto knife and lifts the words out on a hinge, then photographs them -- newspaper popout poems:
