Changes

Tomorrow is the second annual 100,000 Poets for Change Day, bringing "communities together to call for environmental, social, and political change within the framework of peace and sustainability."

by Youssef Alaoui

In honor of the event, here is "What Changes?"

What Changes?
by Tabatha Yeatts

Asleep, waked.
Batter, baked.
Winter, springed.
Finger, ringed.

Nail, pounded.
Lost, founded.
Found, lost.
Pasta, sauced.

Moths, cocooned.
Plums, pruned.
Cream, churned.
Lesson, learned.

Book, read.
Word, said.
Fear, surmounted.
Vote, counted.

Marjorie has the Poetry Friday round-up today.

Fear, surmounted.

Hi, lovely Tabatha! My favorite lines are "Winter, springed./
Finger, ringed."

And, of course, the pasta, sauced. Reminding me that we should meet for lunch soon.

Tabatha, I'm so happy you are participating in tomorrow's event. It will be a first for me, and I am so honored. Your poem is fantastic! So simple yet it conveys how change surrounds us and some change is within our control and some is not. I love that the last line shows that we effect change with our voices, even silent ones.

Tabatha,
I loved your sparse spine poem. There is lots of room for the reader to contemplate each line and word combination. I especially like the end line "Vote counted" which echos the thought of each reader counts. Well done.

Oh, wow! Love this! I read it twice just to savor the juxtaposition of images, and to feel the punch of the ending. Powerful. True.

Fun! I've seen other poems with a similar form but never about this subject.

This is terrific! I was married in the month of December so "winter springed, finger ringed" had a particular zing to me.
